Marilou

Marilou

Marilou is an ensemble made up of five musicians who are passionate about the dissonances, tensions and relaxations, the sobs, the "alas", that they find in the music of the 17th and 18th centuries.

With a variable geometry, they explore various repertoires ranging from two to five instruments. Starting with a formation of two treble instruments, harpsichord and two basses, their versatility allows them to play with theorbo, vocals and treble viols. They can therefore vary the combinations of sound and repertoire endlessly, and thus offer a great wealth of timbres and colours.  Marilou is keen to honour less well known composers, such as André Chéron (harpsichordist at the Paris Opera), Honoré d’Ambruys (disciple of Michel Lambert) and Jean-Baptiste Quentin (violinist at the Paris Opera).

The ensemble performs in France (Folle Journée de Nantes, Bach en Combrailles, Festival Baroque de Pontoise…) and abroad (Albacete, Brussels, Utrecht…). Their first CD « Doux Silence » has been released in february 2024 on the Belles Écouteuses label. Marilou is currently in residence at the Singer-Polignac Foundation.
